Ken is a sports industry veteran with success in ticket sales management, staff development, mentoring, digital marketing, and social media training experience.
Ken has a knack of developing unique marketing and revenue generating ideas. In 1994 at his first MiLB stop, Ken developed and executed a “Strike Back Against the Strike Night” which was covered by the CBS News Eye on America series. In 2013, Ken developed and implemented the GOALden Ticket program for the Phoenix Coyotes which had a ROI of 282% and resulted in several earned media opportunities.
In 2008, Ken launched a successful consulting business working with clients like the Atlanta Braves, Sky Blue FC, NY Giants, Turnstyles Ticketing, Minnesota Timberwolves, Phoenix Coyotes, New York Mets, and San Francisco Giants. As an early adapter of social media and social selling , Ken launched the only weekly Twitter chat on ticket sales best practices at hashtag #social4tixsales in 2011.
Ken is focused on serving as a mentor and developing the next generation of #SportsBiz leaders. He has a proven track record of working with ticket sales managers how to recognize and develop revenue generating sales ideas, develop leadership skills, mentor their staffs, and increase the productivity of their departments.
Ken has a Bachelors in Sports Management from Texas A&M University and a Masters in Sports Administration from Ohio University. In his spare time Ken enjoys golf, and has completed 18 marathons, 4 Ironman Triathlons, and has recently taken up fly fishing. Ken lives in Dallas with his black labs Annie Savoy Special and Vivian Vin Scully. Ken’s favorite sports moment is seeing Ted Williams throw out the first pitch at the 1999 All-Star Game in Fenway Park.
In 1991, Tom began his sports career as a summer sales intern with the Chicago Bulls where he sold advertising space in the official program of the team. At the conclusion of this internship, Tom took a telemarketing position with the Chicago White Sox organization. He sold season, group and party area tickets. In 1992, Tom was offered a full-time position with the White Sox as an account executive and serviced over 1,200 season and group accounts until he left in 1995 to take a position at Elite Marketing.
He gained valuable sponsorship sales experience, working as the Manager of Sports Marketing and Sales for the company. He sold local sports programs for the professional Chicago sports teams and managed the Chicago Tribune Press Pass promotions, which was one of the longest running renewal programs in their history.
In 1997, Tom took the Director of Marketing and Advertising position at Balmoral Park Racetrack. (Steinbrenner family owned) His responsibilities included all sales, marketing, special events and advertising planning and facilitation as it pertained to the live racing season.
In 1999, Tom returned to the Chicago White Sox, as their Manager of Ticket Sales, where he was responsible for the implementation of all sales strategies as they pertained to ticket sales and service. He developed and managed all tickets sales budgets and wrote the marketing plan for his department. In 2004, he added premium seating to his responsibilities and was now the Sr. Director of Ticket Sales. He has restructured and expanded his staff into a proactive sales group specializing in separate areas of the sales process more than a few times over the last 18 seasons. He managed and drove a $100-$150 million-dollar ticket sales budget every season from 1999 through 2017.
In January of 2017, Tom left the White Sox after 23 seasons to become the Senior V.P. of Business Operations at a new minor league baseball team in Rosemont IL, the Chicago Dogs. The Chicago Dogs participate in the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball League and are one of 12 teams competing for the league championship every year!
In 2018, moved on to become Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Incentivefox Marketing Solutions in suburban Chicago. Incentivefox is a marketing firm that provides best in class, customizable sales referral platform to reward and track leads generated by targeted sales programs. At the same time, he launched his consulting firm, Chitown Consult and has been helping market and launch products in the sports marketing and sales space since 2018!
Tom has been married to his wife, Mary (Broedlow), 1992, Bachelor of Science, Accountancy, Illinois State University, for 26 years, Mary is the Director of Financial Reporting at Gem Realty Investors. Tom and Mary have a 23-year-old daughter, Grace, who just graduated from Wisconsin-Madison and 21-year-old son, Ryan, who is a Junior at Purdue. Finally, our newest addition to the family is Ollie, our -4-year-old cockapoo (40 in dog years).
